I hate when people pull the race card. No, just because you're Black doesn't mean that's why you didn't get the job.
"Black" is an offensive term. I'm not that, but it's still rude!
RoseWeasley, you can go fuck off. I have seen enough of your comments on here, and I feel like it's finally time to step in and say something.
Also, black is NOT an offensive term. It's racist bitches like you who are still too stupid to realize that.
For gosh sakes, can you just lay off for once? How come you are always bitching on Hatepost comments?
amen to that....though sometimes it's justified, unnecessarily pulling the race card only reminds us of the stereotype and perpetuates racism.
poooooooooooh.
"Black" is not offensive. If it were, "white" would be offensive too. Don't be stupid and prude by trying to be smart and almighty.
I do hate when people do this though. They're just trying to victimize themselves that way. It's irritating and pointless.
I'm going to guess that most of you, if not all are white. Don't say anything if you have no idea much less really attempted to understand the issue. Yes, some people do say this irrationally, as in when they say it for any occassion or repetitively, but the culture of being black or a minority in general is completely different from being white on soooo many different levels. Not getting a job because of your "race" is not exactly unheard of to say the least. I am not black, but I am a minority and the advantages of white priviledge is something I can very plainly often see, but many white people are veeery unaware of. I hate it when people say things about "race cards" and racism, but don't really know much about it because they are on the other side of the spectrum and of course wouldn't know anything about it.
You realize, Brighteyes, I'm going to join the marines because my mom is too poor and I'm just not quite there gradewise to get a scholarship. Meanwhile if I were black, or Native, I would get a scholarship just on the premise of being a minority interested in college with decent grades. And yet us white folk have all the benefits. Now I'm not saying every minority gets this. Just a family member of mine was beaten because she was white. There's Jesse Jackson, I don't need to say anymore. Obama got elected and every kid in school all said I was racist simply because I didn't want him as president because he was black. 30 years ago, when lynching wasn't prominent, I would agree with you. White people did have the advantage. They don't anymore though. Just because we're on the other spectrum for you, means you're on the other spectrum for us.
Ryan, I can see that it is hard for you to understand this, but I still disagree. I never said white people have ALL the benefits, just white priviledge. Yes, there are still those that are poor, and have their own set of disadvantages, but they still have access to a certain pool of benefits because of white priviledge. Yes, minorities do get scholarships often more easily because they are minorities, but that is because of this advantage. Most white people have been born into a family that is more priviledged than they realize. Because they have always been free and the "better" race, they have already acquired land in their family, valuable heirlooms, a NAME because of something their grandfather or family in general did, and their family most likely all had the chance to be educated for as far back as they can remember. This is just some of the more general advantages. Now a black, native american, or hispanic have a different story. Their family didn't have access to formal "white" education until much recently, and the education that THEY need is pretty much white history, not something that helps them learn about their own culture. Their family started out (and I mean ancestors, not just right now) so poor that they didn't have a lot to invest in things that would benefit their children for generations. And since they were black, hispanic, or native american, not many that have the experience on how to get ahead (because most of those were white plus the few minorities that did at the time) would give them advice, much less the time of day, to help them figure out what else they can do to get ahead. Their families are generations of families that are used to working hard for everything they had with physical labor, not a pencil pusher job that they got because everyone in their family works there (I know this isn't only the case, but I mean maaaany white people that got jobs back then especially and now, was because of who you knew). Physical labor jobs are probably always going to be paid as very little compared to most other pencil pusher jobs or whatnot, often minimum wage or lower. Many minorities don't have parents that went to college giving them a better chance to get in as a legacy or anything at all (which getting in as a legacy improved your chances by a significant percentage, possibly 29% but I'm not positive on the exact numbers). I am really sorry you feel you have to join the marines, but I can tell you there are a lot of other things you can do because I or someone I know have done it. There are loans, other scholarships because not all depend on grades, many focus on service, and you could always work through college and just not take as many hours as you wanted to. I also have a white friend whose family was poor or too big of assholes to help their own daughter in any way that is beneficial to her. She has worked her way through college at a university rate, has her own apartment, still doesn't have a car, but she can find a way to work for everything she has gotten, and she is a full time student and a leader in everything she does. I am really very sorry you felt that way, but I wish you had talked to someone because military was not your only option. I worked my ass off in school because I knew my parents couldn't pay to send me to school so that I could make sure I could get scholarships because of my grades as well as the services I was involved in. And I'm sorry a family member of yours was beaten because she was white, but every minority probably has a family member that was beaten because they were black, hispanic, or native american, or chinese, and most also have family members that have had much worse done to them. We have family members that did not get the respect or care that they deserved because they were not as important of a priority for them. I have a brother and sister that died in a hospital, one after a complication at birth, one after getting treatment because she was really sick as a toddler. You can bet your ass they would not have died if it was some white person that they bothered paying attention to because they know who ultimately has the money when compared to a white person even though my parents always paid their bills. If that had happened with a white person, you can bet they would have been sued on both accounts, but my parents never even thought that would be a viable option for them. They were so USED to being mistreated, that they are conditioned to think that we may as well just put up with EVERYONE's shit because no ones going to be able to help us anyway unless we have a huge wad of cash to wave at them. Family of minories have family members that have been lynched, treated inhumanely, beaten, taunted, spit on, and much more because they are minorities. Whoops, sorry it happened to your family. Yes, that is terrible, don't get me wrong, but its not exactly the worst case scenario. Yea, the Obama thing is dumb, I didn't vote for him either because of his lack of a plan for all his great proposals amongst other things, but if you didn't want him as president BECAUSE he was black, um, yea that is racist. But don't feel too bad, the majority of white people are racist on some level because of the life they have been conditioned to. And as for LYNCHING being over, just because they don't LYNCH anymore does not mean that racism is over and that we are all on equal ground. How about Jasper, Texas 1998? Or even just last year a black man was brutally murdered in a very similar way to Mr. Byrd. Racism is over, oh yea I'm sure. You just THINK it is over because it is not as blantant as it used to be. But when I get watched and followed by store clerks when I walk through a store even though I've never stolen anything in my life, much less have anything I could obviously put it in, yea, that says racism isn't over. When a person of minority is more likely to get caught in an illegal crime than a white person, more likely to actually be tried, more likely to receive a higher sentance, and more likely to receive the death penalty, that says racism isn't over. Look at the statistics, look at the facts, because it is much bigger than your life experience.
When I said "black" is offensive, I meant I don't like the term. Sorry for having a bedtime and having to leave before going over things! But how are my other comments bad? About the post, I HATE THAT! We were acting out a synonym for fight or debate last year, so we used the election (English class). Someone on the Obama side said, "We need a black person as president instead of some old white guy." SERIOUSLY! Oh my gosh, I hated her for saying it that day. I also hate how people voted for Obama because of his race. Gits.
or when someone gets pulled over "because they are black"...um no you were speeding.
Amen to # 8 .Speck Rosey! i hated that too but lets be real everyone says racist things and everyone has racist thoughts , but that doesn't mean it's right . I'm black and I hate when every my friend says "oh is it because i'm black" No it's because of your actions or your mentality! and whites do it too Ithere a boy in my class who says I'll always do better than you becuse i'm white . and thats not true either or how people always blame things on "the white man" or how all asians love math . We are all victoms of racism and no one is exempt from pulling the race card . It's not just blacks it's everybody. We are fueling ignorance and hate and it's horrible and annoying!
RoseWeasley, I apologize. I didn't mean to come across as that harsh, and it was extremely rude of me. I was having a horrendous day, but it wasn't right at all to take it out on you.
brighteyes, are you trying to say that your life is worse than a white idividual's life simply because you are black?
Another shining example of why the Sun needs to hurry up and Supernova.
Thanks, Darby, love your name. #10, I hate it when people say I love math because I'm Asian! I agree with you! Darby, the next time you have a bad day, check out www.GivesMeHope.com. My name's the same on it. It's amazing. Did you know that there's a law in some schools that states something like, "If a school with a majority of caucasians "[I really wish I could spell that.]" has an honor group that someone of a minority tries out for, they have to get in." There's an African-American girl that got into honor choir because of that. Since she got in, my friend, Keely, missed getting in. She was next on the cut-off list, so she had to wait a semester to join. The person that got in ahead of her CAN'T sing! You can't hear her, and when you can, she just wails. I know Keely's better in the minds of the music department because she got excepted (only four people did) to go to an honor choir for two days in the summer. Again about me being Asian: Some people only think I'm smart because of that. No, it's because I work hard in class, unlike those individuals, and I never have to study. Also, I didn't become class president for being Asian, it's because I work hard. It's not my fault that I'm in the top three in my class and they're not. Anyway, that's odd since I'm only around 49% Asian. Otherwise, I'm European from my dad. The 1% left was Spanish from my mom. I hate when people, like my dad, make statistics based on race. I also hate how that's part of his job. Why do welfare offices need to calculate success percentiles in the area based on race.
guys, just relax...no need to start a debate
Oops...Sorry, didn't mean to sound so pretentious in #13...I do study...just not a lot...unless you count filling in study guides for homework.
I don't see asians that have "minority privilege. We immigrate here to the U. S. with next to nothing and work are asses off to get to the top. We study 24/7, and we get selected onto a job because we are just that much better. I get consistently beat down because I'm asian, but rather than bitch on the internet, I work hard so that I can be the one who gets coffee from those losers.
Hey BrightEyes.. this thread should just say "I hate BrightEyes" because I hate people that think like you.
First off where do you get your statistics from? OJisInnocent.com?
Dont try and say that discrimination doesnt happen to all types of races and make up some figure- 'probably all blacks, hispanics, and other minorities have been beaten because of their race'. You're wrong about that one. Your legacy statistic isn't even close. Your whole post is full of shit. White people do not hate you, you hate yourself. You blame white people for your lack of accomplishments. You are unable to form friendships with white people because of these beliefs. You are the United States' problem, and should really consider relocating.
