I hate when you go to a restaurant and whenever the waiter/waitress comes to check on how your food tastes, your eating, so instead of saying something you end up giving them a really awkward head nod or a thumbs up.
Hahaha, same at school, if my friend asks me a question but I'm eating it's always akward to nod or something to show that I'm listening. xD
Try taking smaller bites in the first place, that way you can chew and swallow quickly or shove it to the side of your mouth. Putting the food/utensil down once in awhile helps too and makes you look an awful lot less piggish.
that happened to me yesterday ... i just took a bite out of my burrito and had to give a thumbs up ... lol ... i just think its funny
Okay I do understand that it is awkward, and you don't want to talk with a mouthful of food, but nodding is just fine. But, as a waitress, it is my, and all other hospitality employers, to make sure the customers are satisfied. This is part of our job. We HAVE to ask you how everything is going. We know that people don't/can't talk with their mouth full of food but we can't exactly watch you the whole time you're eating to see when you don't have a mouthful of food to come and check on you. We have other things to do besides that. Take orders, clear tables, clean. etc. When we get a few spare seconds, those seconds are the ones where we go to all tables asking how everything is going. A simple nod or smile is all we need so we can get back to whatever we were doing before that. Then, if there is an issue, we deal with it.
Yeah, I understand waitors/waitresses are obligated to ask you how your meal is, but at the same time I used to be a waitress and we actually do that on purpose. It's hilarious!
