I hate how the gas station charges $1.00 for air to fill your tires with. Oh, then it's "Quarters Only" for the machine. Thanks, I'll just drive with a low tire because the last time I checked air is free, unless we're getting taxed on that too like everything else...

ugh, you're paying for the compression of the air. and last time i checked, cost for the electricity used to compress the air isn't a TAX. it's a cost.

Well, I used to work at a gas station, and air is free. I think its a law. All you have to do is go inside and ask the attendant to turn it on. If you put quarters in, its a waste of money.

where i'm from we're charged for the air, but it's donated to charity, so it's not so bad :)

Most if not all gas stations will pop the air system for you if you buy pretty much anything. I once bought a Coca-Cola and asked if I could get air and they popped the button for me remotely. You could say they're charging for having a system that actually works and delivers air when you need it, and God forbid even has a working pressure gauge on it, but (a) I've seen way too many pay ones that still didn't work and (b) a buck is too #$#@)*!!! much to pay for 90 seconds on an electric air compressor, that's #$#@*!!! insane.
